Carroll S. was married to Ellen A. French, Oct. 21, 1874, at Baldwinsville, N.Y. Mrs. Betts is a daughter of James and Catherine (Bauman) French. They came to Gratiot County March 28, 1880, locating at Sickles, in Hamilton Twp. Mr. and Mrs. Betts were the parents of a son-Burr- who was born July 10, 1877, in Hillsdale County. Burr Betts was a teacher at Sickles and afterwards a general store owner.

The parents of Carroll S, Seth Betts, born March 11, 1812, died April 28, 1909 at Reading, Michigan. His mother, Mary (Hopkinson) Betts, born Jan. 18, 1814, Wayne County, New York, and died Feb. 6, 1898 at Reading, Michigan. Parents were married in November 1837.
