Mrs. Opal Bobbitt Vaughan Andrews, 82, formerly of Edmonds Road in Galax, passed away to the welcoming arms of her Lord and Savior on Sept. 6 at Riverside Hospital in Newport News. Mrs. Andrews was born April 14, 1926, to the late James Green & Cynthia Tilson Bobbitt in Carroll County, VA. She graduated from Woodlawn High School and recently attended her 65th High School reunion this past July. She completed school at Bluefield Business School in Bluefield, WV. Many may remember her as one of the long-time Galax merchants and owner/operator of Vaughan Shoes. She enjoyed her retired years golfing, gardening, canning, cooking, traveling and helping with the Fairview Ruritan functions. She was a 50-year member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church, Galax, and later in life, Savannah United Methodist Church, Galax. Following surgery in October 2007, she relocated to Yorktown, VA, to be with her son & his wife, who were her caregivers until her passing. Mrs. Andrews was predeceased by her husband, Gene Clinton Vaughan; one sister, Virginia Shaw; and five brothers, Andy, Paul, John, Delmar and Bud Bobbitt. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Eugene A. Andrews; two sons, Gene Bobbitt "Bobby" Vaughan & wife, Jennifer of Yorktown, VA, and J. Wayne Vaughan & wife, Terry of Galax. She is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Jennifer Meagan Vaughan, affectionately referred to as "Sweet Pea"; sister, Christine Sells; sister-in-law, Kate Vaughan; and several nieces and nephews. Her family is celebrating her life with funeral services to be held in the Chapel at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax, Wednesday at 11 a.m. with burial in Felts Memorial Cemetery, Rt 887, Galax. A homegoing celebration with family and friends will be held in the Family Life Center at Cliffview Church of Galax. Donations may be made to any charity in her memory.
