Izora Rhodes-Armstead
Birth: Jul. 6, 1942
Texas, USA
Death: Sep. 16, 2004
San Leandro
Alameda County
California, USA

Singer. Best known as half of the singing duo the "Weather Girls," the other half being Martha Wash. She would never give her real age but she is believed to have been born in 1942, her birthplace being Texas. Advanced in musical abilities as a child, she began playing piano and in her teens was studying classical music at the San Francisco Conservatory. In the 1970's she joined the Gospel group News of the World (NOW) where she meet Martha Wash. Eventually, the two moved on to become back-up singers for the disco singer Sylvester. Their popularity grew and their manager decided to feature them as a separate act called "Two Tons O'Fun." After a label switch to Columbia records and a name change to "The Weather Girls" they had their first big hit with a tune called "It's Raining Men (1982)" penned by Paul Jabara and Paul Schaffer, the latter being the band leader for the Late Show with David Letterman. In 1993 she and daughter Dynelle Rhodes debuted as "Double Ton's Of Fun" and had immediate success with songs "Can U Feel It" and "We Shall All Be Free." She is survived by seven children and several grandchildren. (bio by: Tim Joyce)
