He is survived by two sons, Dennie Armentrout and wife Sally and Ronnie Armentrout and wife Patricia, all of Whitmer. Two daughters, Millie Eye and husband Herold of Red Creek and Darlis Louk and husband Donald of Bowden. Grandchildren, Dave Armentrout and wife Tammy of Whitmer, Malisa Kerens and husband Kevin of Bumpass, Va., Nathan Eye and Brandy Hymes of Belington, Miranda Smith and husband Chad of Elkins, Donald Louk, II and wife Justina of Montrose, Kristy Shifflett and husband Joshua of Harman, Jeremy Louk and wife Kimberly of Lost Creek, Karen Eye and Brant Ours of Elkins. Also surviving are Great Grandchildren, Alex Armentrout, Kaleb and Kameron Shifflett, Dokota and Caitlyn Eye, Ella Ours, Tori, Tyler, DJ, Madison and Abigail Louk, CJ, Ethan, McKenzie Smith, and Adam and John Graham. Mr. Armentrout was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by six brothers, Stanley, Forrest, James, Hershel, Jackie, and Fred, two sisters, Ruby and Erma and one great grandson, Donald Forrest Smith.
Mr. Armentrout was a graduate of Harman High School and attended Davis & Elkins College and West Virginia University. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1940 to 1941 and was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1949. He received the American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the WW II Victory Ribbon.
He started his teaching career in 1952 at the Oseeola School where he taught until 1955. From 1955 to 1957 he taught at the Lambert School, and then taught at the Whitmer School from 1957 to 1964 and was the Principal at the Whitmer School from 1964 to 1983. He retired from the Harman School June 13, 1985 where he had taught since 1983. He was Deputy Assessor of Randolph County from 1973 to 1983. Mr. Armentrout was a volunteer fireman for the Whitmer Volunteer Fire Department and also volunteered for the Randolph County Emergency Squad.
Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Saturday morning, May 10th, Mr. Armentrout will be moved to the Whitmer United Methodist Church for visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. the funeral hour. Rev. Earl Bible will officiate and interment will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer where full military rites will be accorded at the gravesite by members of H.W. Daniels Post No. 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post No. 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorial contributions may be made to the Whitmer United Methodist Church, c/o Wilda Tingler, Treasurer, HC 65, Box 31, Harman, W.Va. 26270 in memory of Mr. Armentrout.
