William J Gruver, 94, died Tuesday morning, April 24, 2007, at his home in Oelwein following a short illness.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 30, at Grave United Methodist Church, Oelwein with the Rev. Darwin Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Elgin Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home, 309 First Ave. N. E., Oelwein, and from noon to service time Monday at the church.
William was born September 26, 1912, at St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Lew and Mary Ellen (Shaw) Gruver. He completed his education at Elgin Public School in Elgin, Iowa. On June 21, 1932, he married Evelyn V. Gress in Tomah, Wisconsin. A retired railroad employee, William had been a foreman with the Rock Island Railroad.
He is survived by his three daughters, Bonita and her husband Earl Lembke of Elkader, Sharlene (Bopp) and her husband Lloyd Buss of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and Patricia and her husband Bruce Stockwell of Oelwein; 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 15 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, and friends.
William was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn; two sons, Dwight and Kent Gruver; two brothers, Elmer and Bob Gruver and two sisters, Lily Baldwin and Lila Barnhouse Crain.
