Formerly of Boissevain, Va., he was the son of the late Frank Hudson Atwell and Annie Mae Grubb Atwell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Maxine Smith Atwell; one son, Michael Barrett Atwell; a granddaughter, April Dawn Shultz; four brothers, Jessie, Archie, Johnny and Frank Atwell.
Survivors: Wife, Jennie Sanna Atwell of Marengo; one daughter, Cheryl Lynne Atwell and companion David Shultz of Boissevain; one son, Edward Terrance Atwell of Boissevain; three sisters, Jane Shrader of Marengo, Bertha Robinette and husband Bob of Palm City, Calif., and Peggy Harrison and husband Doug of Centerburg, Ohio; one brother, Raymond Atwell of Burnstead, N.H.; three grandchildren, Courtney Sluss and husband Walter of Boissevain, Catherine (Katie) Shultz of Boissevain, and Michael Atwell of Montcalm; three great grandchildren, Hudson and Marcus Sluss, and Katilyn Atwell; many nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, Sept. 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ, Biscayne Road in Boissevain with Pastor Charlie Marrs officiating.
