Obituary: "Harold Maloney succumbs Jun 18 - Harold Maloney was born in Waseca, Minnesota, on November 12, 1910. He married Jenny Byrne in Kansas City, Missouri, on September 14, 1936. Shortly thereafter they moved to California and have made their home there ever since. Harold enlisted in Byrne Navy during World War II, from 1943 to 1945, where he served as a plumber's mate first class. His favorite wartime story was of the night his ship lost power and the currents carried its lifeless hulk to the Jap-infested island of Truk where it lay inert until daybreak. Just before dawn the GI's got the engines going and made their way to safety. Harold and Jenny came to Tecate from Downey in 1969. They established the Amer-Mex, where they sold everything from water tanks to windmills and became well known throughout the Mountain Empire for their ready hand to help any cause or any person with a need. They were faithful in attendance and in service of their church, St. Adelaide Mission in Cameron Corners. Last year they built a house they called "Blarney Manor." It delighted Harold because his Irish mother had said they were married on a Monday. Harold exchanged time for eternity on the morning of June 18 at the VA hospital in La Jolla. A rosary was said for him at the Paris Mortuary in El Cajon on June 21 at 11 a.m. His remains were taken to the Fort Rosecrans Cemetery, without graveside services. Harold is survived by his daughters Shirley and Janet, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren and his wife Jenny Byrne Maloney. A piece of our community has been washed away and Tecate is the lesser. (Summers)" (Unidentified newspaper, Jun 1980)
