The will, apparently created after his death by witnesses, indicates that Jacob died either on the fifth or the eighth of January. e.g.: "We the subscribers being present at the house of Jacob Leightty late of Dunbar Township, Fayette County deceased upon Wednesday the fifth day of January present. 1814 the said Jacob Leighty being very weak in body of his last sickness of which the said Jacob died - the Saturday following, being the eighth day of January. ..."

Jacob was buried in the Leighty family cemetery on the old Leighty farm.
