Eliza Noble Wing Whittier was 83 years old when she died on January 28, 1906. She was the daughter of Hon. Austin Eli Wing and Harriet Skinner Wing. Eliza was the wife of Moses H. Whittier. Eliza died at Hillsdale, Mi. at the home of her sister, Harriet Mitchell. She was educated at Miss Grant's Seminary, Ipswich, Mass. Eliza spent her childhood at the home residence on Elm Avenue, and belonged to the early pioneer society, of Monroe and Detroit, Mi. as a charming woman of a particurly lovable disposition. She met Moses Howe Whittier, a merchant, and with William Merrill ran a general store, under the name of Merrill & Whittier on Front Street in Monroe. They were married on Dec. 23, 1841, in Monroe. Moses died at the age of 31, on June 2, 1842, in Monroe. After her husband's death, Eliza went to Hillsdale, and resided up until her death with her sister, Mrs. Mitchell. Services were held in Hillsdale, and Harriet was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery, Monroe, Mi., next to her brother Talcott E., and in the Wing family lot.



Both Eliza and Moses are on the same stone, which is the one in the middle of the three large monuments on the Wing lot.
