Services for Ishmael B Benham, 57 of 1253 El Rey Avenue, El Cajon, will be at 4 p.m. today in Paris Mortuary.

Benham died Sunday after suffering a stroke at his home. A Native of Seymour, Texas, he operated a blacksmith and metal-working business at 992 Greenfield Drive in El Cajon.

In World War II, Benham served from 1941 to 1942 in the Army cavalry as a technical sergeant, shoeing horses and otherwise practicing his civilian skills. Then he transferred in the Navy and served until 1945 as a metalsmith.

Benham was an ardent hunter and fisherman. He was credited with instructing thousands of children with gun safety. He also was active in Little League baseball.

A past district officer of the Odd Fellows, Benham was a former noble grand of the fraternal organization's lodges in Borger, Texas and El Cajon. He was right supporter of the noble grand in San Diego Odds Fellows Lodge, which will officiate at the services.

Benham also was a member of the Ramona Veterans of Foreign Wars and an honorary member of Future Farmers of America. He is survived by his widow, Barbara; a son, Jerry; a daughter Karen, all of El Cajon. His parents; a brother and five sisters.

Interment will be at El Cajon Cemetery
