PIPER CITY - Martin Victor Dietz, 82, of rural Piper City, died at 7:40 a.m. Monday (April 8, 1996) at his home. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church, Cullom, the Rev. Charles P. Robards officiating.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Cullom. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Cullom, where a Christian wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Cullom Fire Department and Ambulance or the Franciscan Hospice of Central Illinois.
He was born Jan. 2, 1914, in Chatsworth, the son of Louis G. and Gertrude Gewehr Dietz. He married Nelda West Nov. 29, 1941, at St. John's Catholic Church, Cullom.
Mr. Dietz attended Chatsworth School and farmed his entire life in rural Cullom. He had lived on the same farm for 65 years, since 1930.
He belonged to Moose Lodge, Bradley, and was a longtime member of the Cullom Junior Fair Association.
Survivors include his wife, Nelda Dietz; two sons, Martin V. Dietz Jr., rural Kempton; and Stanley Dietz, rural Piper City; four sisters, Margaret Wurzburger, Gilman; Mary Deany, Cullom; Gertrude Bogner, Ukiah, Calif.; and Josephine Weber, Seminole, Fla.; and two brothers, Ed Dietz, Ashkum; and Leo Dietz, Cullom.
Also surviving are two daughters-in-law, Karen Dietz, rural Kempton; and Janeen Dietz, rural Piper City; and six grandchildren, Patricia, Mary Beth, Brian, Kimberly, Stacy and Joseph Dietz.
Two sisters, Dorothy Dancey and Alice Klehm, and four brothers, Walter Dietz, Louis Dietz, Clarence Dietz and John Dietz, preceded him in death.
