The following obituary appeared in "The Herald" (Sharon, PA) on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, page A-5:

Betty Florence McAninch Burns of Plain Grove North Liberty Road, Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County (Volant), passed away at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after a brief illness. She was 92.

Mrs. Burns was born Aug. 17, 1919, in Big Run, Gaskill Township, Jefferson County, to Clyde Calvin McAninch and Marjorie Elizabeth McKee McAninch.

She was a 1937 alumna of Big Run High School.

Mrs. Burns was employed at one time as a baker in the cafeteria at Grove City High School.

As a member of Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, she belonged to the missionary society and Bible study.

Her first husband, James Clinton Thompson, is deceased. She then married W. Robert “Bob” Burns, on Aug. 2, 1976. He survives at the residence.

Also surviving are: two sons, James C. Thompson and his wife Patty, Elyria, Ohio; and David R. Thompson and his wife Sue, Grove City; a stepdaughter, Carol Staz and her husband Robert, Camp Hill, Pa.; a stepson, Lee Minor Burns, California; a sister [sic!], Diane and her husband Paul Malecki, Albany, N.Y.; a brother, Don McAninch, Grove City; five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert L. Thompson; three brothers, Max, Dick and Ben McAninch; a sister, Peg McAninch; and a granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, 626 Plain Grove Road, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday (8-26-11) in SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.

Service: Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (8-27-11) in Plain Grove (Township) Presbyterian Church, Lawrence County, with the Rev. F. Stanley Keehlwetter, interim pastor, officiating.

Interment: South Plain Grove (Township) Cemetery, Lawrence County.
