Boris "Bo" Krichesky
Learn about upgrading this memorial...
Birth: Dec. 23, 1902
Odessa
Odes'ka, Ukraine
Death: Aug. 28, 1949
Yoncalla
Douglas County
Oregon, USA

Boris's parents Misha "Samuel" & Celia Kelmanovitch Krichesky immigrated to Oregon City, Oregon from Izmail, Odessa, Ukraine (AKA Akkerman, or Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, as it is known today). Their first 2 children, Esther and Libbie, were born in Oregon.

The family became homesick, so relatives in Ukraine sent them money to return home. Their next 3 children (Louis, Fritzie, & Boris) were born in Ukraine.

After the pogroms in Akkerman (one on November 5, 1905 and a second more devastating one on November 24, 1905, according to the American Jewish Year Book, Vol. 8 1906-1907), the family returned to Oregon, bringing with them Misha's parents (Schloima & Beyla Kritzewsky?) and his niece Doris. Doris's father was Misha's brother. Her mother had died young and her father remarried to a woman who did not want Doris, so Misha and Celia raised her as their own.

According to ellisisland.org, Celia, Misha, Schloima & Beyla (possibly Misha's parents), Esther, Libbie, Louis, Fritzie, Boris, and Doris departed Antwerp, Belgium on the ship Finland and arrived in New York on March 26, 1906.

Boris attended Hebrew school and later Reed College in Portland. His sister Frederika ("Fritzie") attended the same college, where she & the brother of her roommate, Alice Rothwell, introduced Alice to Boris. (Alice's brother was U.N. Charter founder Charles Easton Rothwell.)

Boris & Alice were married on April 22, 1925 and both continued on at Reed College until each had obtained their degrees in Science. After graduating, they lived in Bend, Oregon where Boris taught high school for 3 years.

Alice & Boris left Bend, Oregon twice so that Boris could obtain his PhD in Anatomy. Time between and after was spent in Los Angeles, California, where Boris taught at the University of California Los Angeles.

Boris died suddenly of a heart attack in 1949 at his brother & sister-in-law's homestead in Yoncalla, Oregon.
