Junior L. - J.L.Hicks, 79, of St. Albans went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 21, 2005, at home, surrounded by his family.
Born March 1, 1926, in Uler, Roane County, he was the son of the late Lemon and Locie Jarvis Hicks.
Junior was retired from Union Carbide Corporation, Institute, with 39 years of service and was a loyal Christian and a member of Lower Falls Baptist Church, St. Albans, where he also served as Sunday school superintendent for 14 years and was a deacon. He was a member of Putnam Masonic Lodge 139 AF&AM, Hurricane, and the St. Albans post of the VFW. He was a former scoutmaster for 22 years for the troop at First Baptist Church, Hurricane.

HE SERVED HIS COUNTRY DURING WORLD WAR II IN THE PHILIPPINES WITH THE UNITED STATES NAVY.

Junior enjoyed carpentry, bird watching and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Janet Blackwell Hicks; his sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Debbie Hicks of Franklin, Tenn., Roger and Kathy Hicks of Culloden, Gary and Vicki Hicks of Eleanor; his brother and sister-in-law, Avon and Mary Hicks of Canton, Ohio; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Gertie Faye and James B. Blackwell of Gahanna, Ohio, Avis and Douglas Ramey of Hurricane, Deloris and Jim Webb of Parkersburg. Jim also loved his grandchildren, Jeremy, Joey, Justin, Janae, and Heather Hicks, Jennifer Danner and Crissy Craddock; and his great-grandchildren, Jason and Faith Craddock and Brittany, Logan, Joseph and Kieran Hicks.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at Bartlett Chapman Funeral Home, 409 Sixth Ave., St. Albans, with the Rev. Brian King officiating. Entombment will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
