Eugenia was born on July 21, 1909 in Puerto de Luna, NM to the home of Esequiel and Sinforania Chavez Candelaria. Eugenia was reared and attended schools in Puerto de Luna. Eugenia was a member of Nuestra Señora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto de Luna and La Sociadad de Nuestra Señora de Refugio. Eugenia enjoyed gardening and baking. Eugenia made her home in Albuquerque in 1984.
Eugenia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jesse Gerhardt and a son, Fred Gerhardt.
Survivors include her children, Gilbert Gerhardt and his wife, Mary of Santa Rosa, Robert Gerhardt and his wife, Dolores of Las Vegas, NM and Oma Garcia and her husband, Esequiel of Albuquerque, her brothers and sisters, Erenio Candelaria of California, Rendolfo Candelaria of Texas, Esther Tenorio and Louisa Flores, both of Albuquerque. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Rosary Services will be conducted on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Nuestro Señora de Refugio Church in Puerto de Luna. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. also at Nuestra Señora de Refugio. Burial will follow at El Calvario Cemetery in Puerto de Luna. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Leonard Garcia, Steve Garcia, Denise Gerhardt, Michael Stines, Marie Sena and Patsy Romero. Mrs. Gerhardt will lie in state at the Chavez Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
