Raymond was born in China Spring, Texas, to the late Benjamin and Minnie Cheek Smith. He served in World War II and in the Philippines for four to five years in the U.S. Army. Raymond retired from Central Freight Lines as a truck driver after 39 years. He had been a crossing guard for Crestview school for over 13 years until he retired two years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Aline, of Waco; children: Karen Hollowell, of Mansfield, Brenda Martin, of Grand Prairie, and Rich Smith, of Waco; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Lucille Smith, of Waco.
