Benjamin Franklin Brinegar

Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Brineger, born 1828 in Lawrence County, Indiana. He enrolled as a Private in May, 1847 for the Mexican War and served with Company B, 4th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers. He was mustered out with his company July 16, 1848 at Madison, Indiana.

Later that year, Oct 19, 1848, he was married to Frances "Frankie" Owens by Matthew Borland, J. P. in Lawrence Co. In 1850 they lived in Owen Township, Jackson Co, Indiana. Benjamin and Frances had one child (possibly more?) - Henry Harrison Brinegar born 1853. Shortly after that Frances evidently died, for on December 22, 1854 Benjamin married Mary Veach in Lawrence County.

In December of 1861 Benjamin enrolled as Private in Company I of the 50th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers for a period of 3 years. At the time of his enlistment he was described as being a carpenter, age 34, 5"10" tall, with a dark complexion, black hair and blue eyes. He was detailed for duty with the Pioneer Corps, and for a time was at Camp Wickliff, Kentucky. He was mustered out at Indianapolis in January, 1865.

Benjamin and Mary lived near Avoca where he was a farmer. On February 27, 1887 Benjamin died of "neuralgia of the heart". and is buried in Eureka Cemetery near Bedford.
