Gladys Flowers Carter, 96, of Wake Forest, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Hillside Nursing Center. Mrs. Carter was born on July 13, 1916 and was raised in NC, where she was a housewife and nursed her mother for many years. She loved to share her gift of nurturing and caregiving with many in the community and loved embroidery and playing the piano. Mrs. Carter had been a resident of Hillside Nursing Center for 20 years where she played the piano for all of the church services in her early years there.
Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning, July 18, 2012 at Neuse Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greemount Cemetery in Wendell.
Mrs. Carter is survived by her daughters, Judy King and husband, John, of Wake Forest and Linda Woods and husband, Woody, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Henry King and wife, Teresa, Cynthia Alford, Amanda K. Shirely and husband, AJ, Wayne Denton and wife, Amy, Cassandra D. Craft, Mark Denton and wife, Deanne, Holly Woods (wife of the late Rob Woods), Danielle Lundy and husband, Lance, and Melissa McClellan and husband, Brad; 17 great-grandchildren, Zachary and Alyssa King, Katelyn Alford, Haven, Desaray, Tyce and Addison Shirely, Jake and Sage Young and Hunter Denton, Ashley Huck, Alustin Woods and Katie Woods, Brena, Krista, Alexis and Kaylee Lundy; sisters, Dorothy F. Ferrell and Rachel F. Moser, both of Virginia; special friends, Lillie Speckman, Charlotte Dille and Will and Amanda Hensley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mamie Wallace Flowers; her husband, Elmer Carter; twin brother, Garland Flowers; brothers, Vaden, Veron, Venable, Howard and Paul Flowers; sisters, Mattie Griffin, Naomi Batts and Vera James and by her grandson, Rob Woods.
The family would like to extend special thank you to all of the staff at Hillside Nursing Center.
