James Kelly, an old resident and highly respected citizen of this vicinity, died at his home a few miles west of Ulysses, Thursday morning, July [June] 28, at 3:25 o'clock.

Mr. Kelly was born in Killagara parish, County Leitrim, Ireland, August 28, 1828, and was the eldest of seven children. At the age of twenty-five he came to America and settled at New Haven, Conn., where he resided for about two years. Later he came west and settled at Milwaukee, Wis., and after a residence of about three years he moved to Bloomington, Ill. In 1871 he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Morgan of Bloomington and five children were the fruits of this marriage while residing in Illinois. In 1884, Mr. Kelly moved with his family to Nebraska and settled on a farm west of this place, where a permanent home was established. The other children reside in this vicinty and are as follows:

Mrs. Mary Gould, H. J., Ellen, Katie and Daniel Kelly, and Mrs. Isabella Gannon.

Deceased also has three sisters and two brothers to mourn his death, Bridget and Thomas Kelly of Bloomington, Ill., Hugh Kelly of Ulysses, Catherine Havey of Rosendale, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Thos. McGowen of Ulysses. Patrick Kelly, a brother, having died several years ago at Merna, Ill.

The funeral services wre held Saturday from the Church of the Immaculate Conception, of which deceased had long been a devout member, conducted by Father Loughran, and interment was at St. Mary's cemetery.
