Henry Sanford Huckeby, was the son of George T. and Lucinda (Sumner) Huckeby, and was in Chickasaw Nation 1900 census with wife, Annice (Stephens) Huckeby, and son, Geo. P. Huckeby, and dau. Lillian. Henry S. was bn in AR and mar. Annice Stephens 27 Apr. 1879 in Madison Co. AR.
She was dau. of William and Mary (Kesterson) Stephens. (from WFT and census).
At marriage, they both listed their residence as Howard, Madison Co. AR.
In 1920 census, Annice C. Huckeby, was living as a widow with her son, George Pinckney and wife Nettie Huckeby, at Newburg (now Atwood).
In the 1900-1901 Center Ass'n Minutes, it is recorded "Rev. H.S. Huckeby as pastor at Summers Chapel" Maxwell,(Pontotoc Co) OK. He was in a list of preacher's names the association accepted as ordained ministers after examination, and issued them a Certificate of Ordination...showing they had recently come into the area.
Rev. "San" Huckeby, organized the Free Will Baptist church at Non,(Hughes Co) OK in 1908, as records and personal knowledge attest; the Association records further prove "H.S. Huckeby" was in the area, and no other minister with an "S" in their name can be found in church records with Huckeby surname.
In the 1901 Minutes, Minister's names and ages, showed him to be "43 yrs" which agrees with his 1858 accepted DOB. In the 1902 session, he was elected to preach, and then was elected to be Moderator of the Center Ass'n.
In 1908, he is credited with organizing a FWB church in Non, Hughes Co. OK, just after statehood. He was well liked and remembered for years after by this old church.
Some of his children and grandchildren are buried in Non Cemetery, Hughes Co.
