John Ercel Cannon, age 90, went to join his Lord on Tuesday, August 17, 2004, from his home in Pasco.

John was born August 18, 1913, in Summerfield, Louisiana, to John Everett and Maude Cannon. He was one of six children.

John (Ercel, as he was known to many of his friends and family), married Grace L. Bradford on December 4, 1940, in McGehee, AR.

He joined the U.S. Navy Seabees in 1942 and served in the South Pacific during World War II.

After the war, he returned to Louisiana to his wife and they began their long and loving life together.

They moved to the Tri-Cities in 1949, and he was a civil engineer working on many of the local dams, the reactors at Hanford, building roads, and finally ending up in Amchitka, Alaska, working for eight years before retiring in Pasco.

He loved hunting, fishing, and his hunting dogs, and raising his garden. After his retirement, he and Grace went fishing as often as possible. He spent every day in his garden raising vegetables for his whole family and friends. He had the best garden in town.

John had a heart of gold and those that knew him could only love him. His sense of humor and his stories will be missed by all.

He was a good father and a loving husband, and his family will miss him. He was the rock of our family. His angel has taken him to Heaven.

John is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Grace L. Cannon; son, John Z. Cannon, and his wife, Gail; two daughters, Wanda Rivers, and her husband, Robert, and Deborah Gilton, and her husband, Gary; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as his beloved sister, Loree Bumgardner from Louisiana.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 21, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Faith Assembly Christian Center, 7213 W. Court S., Pasco.

Burial will follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 10th and Union, Kennewick.
