Gilbert S. Powell Jr., 82, retired factory worker, died May 27, 2001 at the VA Nursing Home in Covington County.

Mr. Powell was a former resident of Raleigh and a member of First Pentecostal Church there. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.
Services were held May 29 at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee with burial following in the Morton Church of God Cemetery.

He is survived by sons, Carl Powell of Magee David A. Powell of Pulaski, Henry D. Powell of Brandon, Joe H. Powell of Florence, Robert L. Powell of Raleigh, Jerry D. Powell of Morton and Paul D. Powell of Birmingham, Ala.; daughters, Virginia P Easterling of Raleigh, Mary P. Rushing and Kathy Stafford, both of Magee; brothers, Calvin Powell of Jackson and Stennis Powell of Magee; sisters, Ola Roberson of Quitman, Ouida Roberson of Whynott, and Euline Day of Lake Elsinore, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Ray Powell, and two grandchildren, Paul Powell, Jr., and Gina Powell.
