Mary Elizabeth Bierly, 79, formerly of Piketon, Ohio, and more recently of Columbus, died Sunday, August 15, 2004, at her daughter's home in Columbus.

She was born May 8, 1925, in the Camp Creek Community in Lucasville, the daughter of the late Ora and Edna (McJunkin) Creech. On February 16, 1964, she was united in marriage to Herbert J. Bierly, who preceded her in death on December 10, 1980.

Surviving are a daughter, Jayne (Kenny) Blevins, of Columbus; two granddaughters, Jessica Lea (Scott) Salisbury and Traci Dawn Blevins; one great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Louise Blevins; and a sister, Laura Mae Henson, of Sierra Vista, Arizona.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Roger Creech, and a sister, Dorothy Harris.

Mary was a retired nursing instructor for the Columbus City Schools, a member and secretary at the Piketon Jasper United Methodist Church, a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Ohio, director of the Volunteers at Pike Community Hospital, a member of Sorosis in Piketon, and a lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a nurse.

Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at Howe Wheeler Boyer Hornback Funeral Home in Piketon, with the Rev. John Richards officiating. Friends may call at Howe Wheeler Boyer Hornback Funeral Home from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Friends may also call at Gramlich Funeral Home in Columbus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, with graveside services at 3 p.m. at North Lawn Memory Garden in Westerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Piketon Jasper United Methodist Church.
