Oscar was an inventor. During his youth he built a miniature steam engine and invented various gadgets. He had a Steam Engineer's license, and he was an electrical engineer. He worked for various telephone companies installing equipment and switchboards. From 1905-1913 he was with Western Electric Company in the development lab and invented and assigned five patents to the company. From 1913 he helped design telegraph machines. He also designed many aircraft instruments with his own money, but the Depression caused his financial ruin. He added much to the advancement of aviation, but little profit to himself.
