From the Detroit Lakes Newspaper, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota - Leo W. Peters, 94, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes, where he had resided for the past seven-and-a-half years. The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28 from the David-Donehower Chapel. Interment was at the Verndale Cemetery, with the David-Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Leo Wilfred Peters, son of Herman and Reka Peters, was born at Melvin, Iowa, on Sept. 14, 1906. He moved with his family at a young age to Ogema, where he attended school. Mr. Peters worked for the City of Detroit Lakes and then trained horses in Montana for a time. On May 28, 1945, he and Harriet Schoelkopf were married in Detroit Lakes, after which he worked construction in Detroit Lakes and in Little Falls. Mr. Peters later was employed by the Little Falls Granite Works as an installer of granite. He and his wife moved back to Detroit Lakes in 1980. Mr. Peters enjoyed woodcrafting, fishing, and working with horses. Surviving are his wife - Harriet; a son - Donald Peters, New Mexico, and two step-daughters - Patricia Bellmore, Wahpeton, N.D., and Martha (Scharold) Reynolds, Fergus Falls. There are 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, twin sons (Ray and Roy) and eight brothers.
