George Anthony Pavka
December 2, 1930 - October 28, 2009

George Anthony Pavka, 78, of Kendallville and formerly of Montgomery, Mich., died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, in Kendallville.

Mr. Pavka had also lived in California Township in Branch County, Michigan, and in Avon Park, Florida. He had lived the past seven years in Noble County, Indiana.

He had retired as a staff sergeant from the U.S. Army in 1968 after 21 years of service. He had served during the Korean War and received the Good Conduct Bronze Clasp and the Purple Heart Award.

Mr. Pavka has also retired from the Coldwater Regional Center.

He was a graduate of Montgomery High School in Montgomery, Mich. Mr. Pavka enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, working in his yard, gardening and watching television. He loved watching football and was a huge Indianapolis Colts fan. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville, Indiana, and was formerly a member of the Montgomery American Legion, Montgomery, Michigan.

He was born December 2, 1930, in California Township, Branch County, Michigan, to Anthony and Mary Elizabeth (Belik) Pavka. He married Lola B. Back on March 31, 1953, in Castle Rock, Colo. She survives in Kendallville.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mary and Neal Augenstein of Kendallville; four sons, Troy and Mary Pavka of Camden, Mich., William and Linda Pavka of Coldwater, Mich., Dennis Pavka of Churubusco and David Pavka of Hillsdale, Mich.; two sisters, Josephine Williams of Montgomery, Mich., and Mildred Gripman of Montgomery, Mich.; two brothers, Joseph and Betty Pavka of Reading, Mich., and William and Laura Pavka of Hillsdale, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anna Swaney and Mary Harbaugh; a brother, John Pavka; and two grandsons, William Joseph Pavka and Roger Anthony.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont with Father James Stoyle officiating. Burial will be in in California Cemetery in Branch County, Michigan, with military rites by the Montgomery American Legion Post.
