LESLIE RENEE GORTON
Our darling Leslie Renee Lancaster Gorton, 45, of Liberty, lost her struggle with cancer on October 17, 2010. She never surrendered. Leslie was born December 14, 1964 in Cleveland, Ohio. She had a life-long love of all things Cleveland. A graduate of Blue Springs High School, she also graduated Wooster College, Wooster, Ohio. She worked at Community Blood Center of Kansas City until she became very ill this year. To the end, she believed she would make it back to work. Leslie was married on April 24, 1999 to Steve Gorton. Their honeymoon was spent in sight of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Her son, Samuel, was born in 2001 and daughter, Abigail, in 2002. She is proud of them. Leslie loved to have fun with her family and friends, read, watch her Browns and Chiefs, knit, and travel. One place she always wanted to visit was Italy, but that pleasure was never hers. She was so pleased to have been able to travel to honor her father's memory at Arundel Cathedral, in England. Leslie was preceded in death by her father, Bill, and uncle, Ron. She is survived by her mother, Ruth Lancaster; husband, Steve Gorton; son, Samuel; daughter, Abigail; uncle, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws. It would not be possible to list all of the people she held dear, but there was a special place in her heart for all of her family and for Nancy, Barb, Patty, the Fees, Brancatos, Meanys, Webers, Keislings, Hathaways, Dolezals, Cochranes, Scotts, all the Brownie moms, our wonderful neighbors, friends, and co- workers at H&R Block, and Pam, Monica, Kristy, Larry, Terry, John, Bill, all of her second family at Community Blood Center, and was happy to be a part of the Lewis and Clark Elementary School family. She felt real joy in knowing she was loved by folks across America, and that there were people who cared for her even as far away as Asia and England. She felt worldwide arms around her. Leslie loved Doctors Bob and Mark and all the healthcare workers who stood with her. They laughed and hoped and cried together. Leslie has gone forward to be with her father, Bill, to help prepare a place for the rest of her family and friends. We shall dearly miss her. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Friday, October 22, at the Park Lawn Northland Chapel, 1-35 at 291 Highway, Liberty. A funeral service celebrating Leslie's life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 23, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel. Burial will follow in Glenridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Leslie's memory with a donation to the American Cancer Society . A message may be sent to the family as well as an on-line guest book is available at www.parklawnfunerals.com. Arr.: Park Lawn Northland Chapel, (816) 781-8228.
