Thomas E. Wood, Sr. was the son of Charles A. Wood and Elizabeth Muse. His middle name was probably "Edwin" since he is listed by that name in the 1850 census and "Edwine" in the 1860 census. His son, Thomas E. Wood, Jr. went by "Edd." According to Sabine County Historical Sketches and Genealogical Records p. 72, by Edna McDaniel White and Blanche Findley Toole, LaBelle Printing Co. Beaumont, TX, 1972, he owned the land where the Jasper county courthouse now stands.

Thomas E. Wood, Sr. and Nancy Meigs (born Dec 23, 1848 AL, died Dec 26, 1917 Brookeland, Sabine Co, TX) were married Sep 28, 1865 in Jasper Co, TX. They were the parents of four children:

1. Mary Ann "Molly" Wood, born 1866: Find A Grave 51954961.

2. Charles Ayers "Jack" Wood, born 1869: Find A Grave 51983353.

3. Nancy Wood: born abt 1874.

4. Thomas E. "Edd" Wood Jr: born 1876: Find A Grave Memorial 7092968. He married Amelia Melvina "Vinie" Carrico, Find A Grave Memorial 7092970.

Thomas E. Wood, Sr. died in 1877 at the age of 33 years, leaving his wife Nancy Meigs Wood age 29 years with four young children to care for. Nancy Meigs Wood married William Wesley "Wes" Dalley on Sep 20, 1879 in Sabine Co, TX. Nancy Dalley is buried in Brookeland Cemetery, Brookeland, Sabine Co, TX.

We don't know where Thomas E. Wood, Sr. is buried. He could be here in the Wood Cemetery near other family members in one of the many unmarked graves, or he could be buried elsewhere in San Augustine or Sabine County. This beautiful spot on the shore of present-day Lake Sam Raburn is a fitting place to honor his short life.
