Charles was the son of David and Sarah Mayer Lahman. He was a farmer, a grocer, and then owned a gasoline station and confectionery shop in Jerry City. He married Ida Gertrude Williamson on 5 March 1902 in Wood County, and she died in 1928. He then married Verna G. Burk Shinew, widow of Harold Shinew, on 9 December 1950 in Wood County and she died in 1952. Charles was of medium height and build with blue eyes and brown hair. He had a sixth grade education.
