Born May 12, 1920, in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Edward Daniel and Verdie Wilmer Sale. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Grace S. Burford, Susie S. Thornton, Mabel S. Stinnette and Elsie S. Dunnavant; and three brothers, Emmett, Forest and Oscar Sale.
She was the co-owner of Davis Grocery. She was also a member of Midway Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pedlar Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors also include her daughter, Joanne Adams Carden, and husband, Joe; a sister, Corrine S. Coffey; two grandsons, Christopher Rae Adams and wife, Kathryn, and Michael Scott Adams and wife, Michelle; four great-grandchildren, Payton Danielle Adams, Caleigh Grace Adams, Katlyn Elizabeth Adams and Carter Bowen; brother-in-law, John Dudley Davis, and wife, Sue; sisters-in-law, Emily Morris and Becky Lane; caregivers and friends, Joy Fulcher, Bettie Austin, Mary Cash, Connie Mawyer, Gayle Douglas, Jean Ware and Floyd Moore; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today, Oct. 26, 2010, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence of her daughter, Joanne Adams Carden. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at Midway Baptist Church, by the Rev. Hugh Bumgarner. Interment will follow in Allwood Community Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Midway Baptist Church or to The American Cancer Society .
