George Garth, Sr., 95, of Webster City died October 7, 2014 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center, with Rev. Richard Laird officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday.
George Gaylord Garth, the son of Myron and Electia Wilson Garth was born June 22, 1919 at Webster City. When he was a small boy he went to country school and later attended school in Webster City. They moved to a farm near Kamrar in 1936 where he graduated in 1937. In 1941, they moved to a farm at Rockwell, IA.
He was united in marriage to Violet Bentley on March 14, 1942. He continued to farm with his father until he was called to service.
He served as a Corporal in Headquarters Battery 526th a.a.a. Camp Bn AFJAC, Orlando, FL. He was discharged in August of 1946 and returned to farming in Rockwell, where he lived for 27 years.
In the fall of 1969 they moved back to Webster City where he was employed by Franklin Mfg. for 5 ½ years. Then he worked for the Webster City School System and drove a school bus for 27 years. He served as a Deacon in his church and was a member of the American Legion Post 191 in Webster City. Violet died June 29, 1998.
Survivors include two daughters and two sons, Delina (Lyle) Etnier of Rockwell, Viola (Richard) Zaabel of Fort Dodge; George Garth, Jr. of Stratford and Larry Garth of Spencer; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Lowell Garth.
