My great grandmother Ella went through a lot of suffering in her life: she experienced first-hand the death of three of her children whose lives were cut short. In spite of that, she never became bitter. She lived her whole life in western North Carolina, raising her children alone much of the time.

Ella was married to Andrew Homer Martin. Together they had the following children:

Ida May Martin Huffman 1893-1983
Oliver William Martin 1895-1976
Otis Lester Martin 1897-1940
Katherine Martin Stewart 1900-1954
Osmond R Martin 1903-1936
Beatrice Constance Martin Holly 1905-1989
