Della Marie Freeman Banks, 76, of the Silvermine community, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2011, in an Athens, Ga., hospital.

A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Eva Mashburn Freeman. She was a member of Nantahala Baptist Church. She was a loving caregiver for many, many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Banks; two sons, Joey and Gary Banks and daughter, Sandra Earls; and eight siblings.

She is survived by six daughters, Evon Banks of Cherokee, Debi Dills of Commerce, Ga., Donna Ball of Bryson City, Rosetta Risinger of Greensboro, Lorie Simonds of Bryson City, and Imogene Banks of Bryson City; one sister, Imogene Gilstrap of Pickens, S.C.; two brothers, Lon Freeman of Bryson City and Lance Freeman of Pickens, S.C.; 29 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Wednesday, April 6 in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Kenny Ball and Rev. Greg Morgan officiated, with burial in Euchella Cemetery.

The family received friends Tuesday, April 5 at the funeral home.
