Mrs. George Buckalew
Was 74 Years Old
Mrs. George Buckalew, resident of the Jay vicinity for many years, died at her home there Thursday. She was 74 years of age.
Millie Jane Bell, oldest daughter of Elisha and Sarah Ann Bell was born near Unionville, Putnam County, Missouri, on January 1, 1869, and departed this life at her home at Jay, May 6, 1943, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 6 days.
On December 25, 1887, she was united in marriage to George W. Buckalew, and they lived in Putnam County until the year 1917, when they moved to Lucas County, Iowa, and have since made their home in Lucas and Clarke counties.
To this union six children were born, Mrs. J. E. Brown of Indianola, Mrs. Ray Wood of Tacoma, Washington, Mrs. G. C. Demass of Tacoma, Wash., Robert of Chariton, Clint of Burlington Junction, Mo., and Basil of Osceola. She leaves to mourn their loss the husband and children, together with twenty-two grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. John Simmons of Unionville, Mo., Mrs. Orwin Wood of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Henry Bell of Newton, Iowa, and Wesley Bell of Narden, Oklahoma.
Her religion was trying to do unto others as she would have them do unto her.
Funeral services were held at Bethel Chapel Church Sunday, May 9 at 11 a.m. Rev. Will Browning of Chariton officiated. Webster Funeral Home in charge.
