John J. VanNest Sr., 62,7920 Admiral Peary Highway., Cresson, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital.
Born June 11,1938, in Munster Township, son of the late Francis and Louise (Yeckley) VanNest.
Mr. VanNest was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Cresson. He loved hunting, the outdoors and working on small engines.
Survived by wife of 42 years, the former Shirley Eger; children: Mary Ann Coons and husband, Scott, Mesa Ariz., Lisa Behe and friend, Roy Brethauer, Crofton, Md., Lois Woodside and husband, James, Summerhill, June Kania and husband, Ron, Nanty Glo, Nancy Jonas and husband, Paul, Glen Burnie, Md.; grandchildren: Coty, Allison, Kristen, Stephanie, Joshua, Jonathan, Sasha and Amanda; a sister, Helen Beck, Loretto; close family friend, Robert Behe; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where Legion of Mary
will recite the rosary at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and a vigil for the deceased will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Aloysius Church with the Rev. William Mullen.
Committal at the church cemetery.
