Funeral services for Walter D. (Douglas) Hines, 54, of Route 2, Rockmart, were held Thursday, May 14, at 2:30 p.m. at the Fairview Baptist Church. The Rev. Larry Davis officiated and interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Born in Douglas County on August 15, 1926, he was the son of the late Walter O. and Lois McIntyre Hines. He was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church, a veteran of World War II and had been employee for 39 years at Goodyear. He would have been eligible for early retirement in August. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Maudie Bramlett Hines; two sons Douglas Wayne Hines and Stephen Ricky Hines and a daughter, Susan Ferguson, all of Rockmart. Seven brothers, Alton Hines, Clifford O. Hines, Clyde Hines, all of Rome; Russell Hines, of Centre, Ala.; Howard Williams, of Rockmart; James Williams, of Atlanta, and Jack Williams, of Middletown, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Nancy Baxter, of Acworth; three granddaughters, Misses Hope Hines and Misti Hines and Miss Holly Ferguson, all of Rockmart. Pallbearers were Parker Leatherwood, Raymond Nettles, Jesse McDonald, Hugh Dean, Elton Williams, Fred Hulsey, LeRoy O'Kelley, Harry Ferguson and Junior Yarbrough. The Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (The Rockmart Journal, May 20, 1981)
