OBITUARY

Mary Lagerhausen (nee Brandt), oldest daughter Dieterich and Margaret Brandt, was born February 2, 1847, in Hanover, Germany, departed this life June 24, 1925, in Shumway, Ill., age 78 years, 4 months, 22 days, after a long illness of a complication of diseases. She was united in marriage to Henry Lagerhausen, of Chicago, Ill., in May 1863, a few years later they moved to a farm near Stewardson, Shelby County, Ill. To this union were born 11 children, six of these died in infancy. On Sept. 7, 1886, the father was taken from the home, leaving the mother and five children, but with patience, love and hard struggle, she raised them to a noble man and womanhood, noble tribute to a mother's love. Her eldest son, George, died September 5, 1906, at the age of 38 years.

Nine years ago she moved to Shumway, where she lived the remainder of her days among kind neighbors and friends. Here her last days were made as pleasant as the loving hand of her daughters could make them; nothing left undone that they could do.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, to which she remained a true and faithful member. She leaves to mourn their loss, four children: Louise Krumwede, of Stewardson; Emma Mueller, of Windsor; Lydia Lagerhausen, of near Stewardson, Henry Lagerhausen of Mason, Ill., one brother, Henry Brandt, of Beecher City, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Sophia Breitweser and Mrs. Bertha Konrad, of Shumway, and Mrs. Margaret Grupe, of Effingham, Ill.; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Dearest mother, gone to that vale,
Wait for the boatman, watch for the sail;
Bring the loved one over the tide
Into the harbor, near her side.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, June 26, at the house, Rev. Theo. Alberts officiating. Interment in the Mound cemetery.
