Jay Clark McDonald Sr., 69, formerly of Ashland, passed away at Hospice House, Tallahassee, Fla., on March 11, 2008.

Jay was born August 29, 1938 in Ashland, the son of John and Margaret (MacDonald) McDonald. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1955.


Jay was known to his friends as "Duff." He was accomplished in water sports and had earned his commercial pilot's license. His life was filled with adventurous journeys that took him through Wisconsin, Alaska, Illinois, Florida and points unknown. His last great accomplishment was the clearing and construction of the Womack Creek Landing Campground in Carragbelle, Fla. There he found happiness fishing with his dog Dusty as captain of his boat.


Jay was preceded in death by his parents; his son Randy; a brother, Bruce and a sister, Marilyn.


He is survived by his children, Glenda (Greg) Bucheger, Butternut, Tracey (Jack) Hoglund, Ashland, Jay McDonald Jr., Duluth, Minn., daughter-in-law, Carrie (Cameron) McDonald, Green Bay; six grandchildren: Beau, Ben, Brandon, Matthew, Brea and Adam; a sister, Donna (Gale) Nemec, Washburn; nieces, Brenda and Debra; and nephew Chris. In addition to his dog, Dusty, Jay had numerous special friends.


A memorial service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Ashland at a later date.
