Birth: Apr. 2, 1853
Death: Sep. 11, 1910

Fourth and youngest daughter of Dr. Robert Greenhow and Rose O'Neale Greenhow, the "Rebel Rose" of the Civil War. She was to live a tragic life, her father died when she was an infant and she never knew him. She lost her sister, Gertrude to disease when she was 8 years old, was imprisoned during the Civil War with her mother on August 23, 1861 at their Washington, D.C. home and then at Capitol Prison from January 18, 1862 until June 2, 1862 and lost her mother to drowning when she was 11. On August 24, 1863 Rose Greenhow took Little Rose to the Sacred Hearts Convent at 77, rue de Varenne, 75007 Paris, France and enrolled her. She was there when her mother drowned and remained there until she was 17. American friends took her home to America and to her sister Florence Greenhow Moore. There Rose fell in love with and married a young West Pointer, Lieutenant William Penn Duvall. They married on November 30, 1871 in Newport, Rhode Island. He enjoyed a distinguished military career, summing up his illustrious career as a General. On the down side he was a severe disciplinarian, both in and out of the army and as a result he and Rose ultimately divorced. After the divorce Rose appeared on the stage for a time, following which she returned to France, became deeply religious and retired from public view by joining the Sacred Hearts Convent. She had one child, Lee Duval.

It was the Convent of the Sacred Heart that she attended, in London (Roehampton), as well as a school in France. There is no "Sacred Hearts Convent." Vivien Leigh and other notables also went to the Convent of the Sacred Heart at Roehampton.
