North Carolina, USA
Son of John Willcockson, Sr. and Sarah Boone.
William was their youngest child. His father made his last known land deeds to William on Feb. 26, 1798, in Rowan Co., NC.
He married Nancy Ann Sparks about 1777, in Rowan Co., NC. Son, Isaac, was born Aug. 24, 1778. (Howard Co., MO Cemetery Record)
William "Red" Wilcoxson got his nickname presumably for having red hair. Nicknames such as "Red or Redhead," and "Blackhead," in the Wilcockson/Wilcoxson families, helped to identity close family members named "William."
William "Red" left his home in Green Co., KY, to settle in Barren Co., KY. He died intestate between Feb. 29, 1828, the date of a deed made to son, William Jr., and Nov. 6, 1828, the date his inventory was presented in Court in Barren Co., KY.
It is assumed this was the location of his home, and that he was buried here with wife, Nancy, who outlived him. There is no cemetery record or marker. A list of descendants buried here can be found at the Green County Library.
