Born in Hannibal, Missouri son of Edward Charles McDonald and Susan Ellen Peake McDonald. Grew up in Hannibal, moved to Lexington, Virginia in 1866-1867 to attend Washington College (Now Washington and Lee University) and boarded with his aunt, Cornelia Peake McDonald the author of a Civil War Diary. Moved to Sherwood Texas and married Mary Elizabeth Welty in 1877. Worked as a farmer in Sherwood, moved to Ozona, Texas to work as the county surveyor in Crockett county. Died in 1902 as the result of an injury incurred while trying to break up a fight between friends. Buried in the Ozona cemetery.
