Hettie Harpster and Brothers
by: William Harpster
......Ethelbert Leonodist Harpster (can you blame him for taking the name Tom) was born in 1867, came to Montana in 1884 at age 17 and established his part of the horse ranch on Smith Creek. He and elmer proceeded to raise horses until they were joined by Bill about 1900, when all three homesteaded on adjoining land. Elmer died in 1904 and Bill returned to Wisconsin in 1918. Tom continued to chase broomtails in this area until he died in 1952. Tom never married; he came close a couple of times, but chasing horses was his first love.
