Verrel Javan Brack, son of Peter and Emma (Hergert) Brack, was born July 3, 1921, at Otis, KS. His death occurred on Nov. 6, 1977, at Russell, KS. His age was 56 years, 4 months, and 3 days.
Verrel lived his early life in the Otis area and received his basic education in the schools of that community and as a young man worked at Salmon, ID in a CCC Camp for about two years. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in Oct. of 1942, served n overseas duty in Europe and was discharged in November of 1945. During his service with the U.S. Army, he was united in marriage to Martha C. Karst on Sept. 19, 1943, at Otis. This union was blessed with a son, Leon Verrel, and a daughter, Vesta Faith.
They made the family home in Russell where Verrel started the KT Bulk Plant and later began working for the el Dorado Refining Co. This later became the Petro-Atlas Co. and is now the American Petrofina of Texas. His work with these companies spanned 29 years and for the last several years he was superintenent for this area.
He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Russell, the Russell Masonic Lodge and the Russell Elks Lodge. He was a charter and life member of the Russell VFW Post No. 6240, a member of the Great Bend American Legion Post and also a member of the Isis Consistory and Shrine of Salina.
Those who preceded him in death were his parents and his infant daughter, Vesta Faith, a brother Roy, and an infant sister, Irene.
Survivors include his wife, Martha; son, Leon Verrel Brack and his wife Connie, of Arvada, CO; one brother, Clifford G. Brack of Great Bend; and one sister, Mrs. Herman K. (Juanita) Brack of Otis; several other relatives and a host of friends.
