CONOVER - Isobel Yount Setzer, 79, of the Abernathy Center, Newton, died Feb. 13, 2001, at the Abernethy Center. Born June 23, 1921, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Robert G. and Edna Shook Yount.
A member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Claremont, she was the first woman elected to the church council and was formerly active in the Women's Missionary Society, Sunday school and choir. A homemaker, she was a hairdresser for a number of years. The first woman elected to Claremont City Council, she was a nationally accredited flower show judge and was active in the Out-to-Grow Garden Club and the Home Demonstration Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Coyte E. Setzer; a daughter, Patsy Ann Setzer; two brothers, Hugh Yount and Ralph Yount; and a sister, Frances Yount Aderholt.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Juanita Setzer and Lonnie and Barbara "Bobbie" Setzer of Conover; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Dave Kiziah of Conover; two brothers, Robert Yount and Joseph McDaniel Yount of Conover; three sisters, Glenna Mae Y. Estes of the Lutheran Home in Hickory, Loretta Y. Huffman of Conover and Sara Y. Olup of Asheville; two grandsons, Ron Setzer and Dennis Setzer of Conover; three granddaughters, Zanotta Kiziah of Boone, Angela Sherrill of Newton and Zina Burney of Wilmington; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Jim Cone and Eric Morphis at 2 p.m. Friday at her church.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ron Setzer, Dennis Setzer, Jeremy Hipps, Jay Burney, David Sherrill and Roger Olup. The family will be at Drum Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
