H. Austin Persons
Ellisburg, May 17.- H. Austin Persons, a lifelong resident of this town, died at the home of his son, J. Edward Persons, at Grand Saline, Texas, Monday, May 15, aged about 74 years.
For several years past Mr. Persons had been south to spend the winter with his son and he had been in failing health for several months past. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. E. M. Brown of Knoxville, Tenn., and two sons, Byron F. of Evansville, Ind., and J. Edward Persons of Grand Saline, Texas.
Mr. Persons was twice married, his first wife being Julie E Persons, daughter of the late Elam Persons, and his second wife was Mrs. Jane (Martin) Clarke, who lived but a few weeks after their marriage.
In Politics Mr. Persons was a stanch Republican and was for several years one of the assessors of this town. He was also postmaster of this village fro one term under the administration of President Harrison. The Funeral of the Late N. A. Persons Who Died in Texas, Largely Attended.
Ellisburg, May 20, The funeral of H. A. Persons, who died in Texas, was largely attended Thursday afternoon by relatives and former neighbors and friends, who held him in high esteem. Rev. L.B. Fisher, a former pastor, said a tender tribute to his memory as a man and a citizen. Those from out-of town who attended the funeral were Bryon F. Persons of Evansville, Ind., who accompanied the remains of his father here. Mrs. and Mrs. W. E. Saxe of Wattertown, B. J. Saxe of Chaumont, Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Denison of Adams Centre, Mrs. Elijah Persons and Adelbert Mother of Roberts Corners and Mr. and Mrs. Will Persons and son, Elam of the Reushaw. The burial took place in the Saxe cemetery. [Published in the "Watertown Daily Times," Saturday Afternoon, May 20, 1095]

He married a second time after Juliett's death to a Mrs Martha J Clark formerly Mrs. Jerome Clark. This is based on an death notice found in the "Jefferson County Journal" published in Adams, New York on Tuesday, November 27, 1894 that states: [Died, Friday the 23rd inst, Marth J. wife of H. Austin Persons, She died about one and one-half months from the day of her marriage. Funeral Sunday the 25th inst. at her late home. Mr. Persons has the sincere sympathy of hosts of friends.] in the same publication on the same page we find: [Mrs. Austin Persons, formerly Mrs. Jerome Clark, died last Friday, November 23 of pneumonia. Thus Mr. Persons finds himself the second time a widower with in the short space of two years. He has the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.]
