HALFWAY - Samuel Calvin Mumma, 85, of Halfway, died Friday, Oct. 11, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 31, 1911, in Sharpsburg, he was the son of the late of Victor Reichard and Beulah Wilson Mumma.
He was a graduate of Shepherd College and a member of the college Alumni and Emeritus clubs.
He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft Corp. and taught mathematics at Woodland Way Jr. High School from 1936 to 1942.
He was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church where he served on the staff parish and finance committees, as church historian and as an administrative board member. He was a former member to the Baltimore Conference of the United Methodist Church.
He was past president and treasurer of Aerie 694 F.O. Eagles, Hagerstown; chairman of Retirees Chapter 842 UAW; past president and treasurer of Fairchild Old Timers Club; RSVP Advisory Committee and VITA Program at the Alexander House, Hagerstown; National and Local 623 AARP; executive board, Maryland State Council Senior Citizens and Organization of Consumer Justice.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Gossard Mumma; three sons, Samuel C. Mumma Jr. of Dover, Del., Weldon R. Mumma of Centreville, Va., and Myles D. Mumma of Baltimore; one sister, Eleanor Bell of Brandenton, Fla.; one brother, Wilmer Mumma of Sharpsburg; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Hildebrand and Victorine Morgan and two brothers, Reichard Mumma and Edwin Mumma.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Rehoboth United Methodist Church. The Rev. James E. Swecker will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.
Memorial donations may be made to Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 30 E. Salisbury St., Williamsport, Md.. 21795.
