Hickman Gray was born February 16, 1821 in Butler, County, Kentucky, the fifth child of Charles Gray and Susannah Bilbo. He is reported to have died June 16, 1896 in Ellis County, Texas and was buried in Elm Branch Cemetery near Bardwell.
