Hickman Gray was born February 16, 1821 in Butler, County, Kentucky, the fifth child of Charles Gray and Susannah Bilbo. He is reported to have died June 16, 1896 in Ellis County, Texas and was buried in Elm Branch Cemetery near Bardwell. (Source: e-mail communication from Della Pierce who stated that this information came from the Bible of her g-grandmother, Sarah Agnes Gray Clanton, niece of Hickman Gray).

Ada GRAY (b: July 28, 1855 in Butler Co., KY - d: June 30, 1921 in Ellis County, TX)

Eveia GRAY (b: March 03, 1858 in Sugar Grove, Butler County, Kentucky - d: Bef. 1860 in Sugar Grove, Butler County, Kentucky)

Hickman's wife Mary died about 1864 and Hickman moved his family to Van Zandt County, Texas in 1871 for about a year before moving to Cooke County southeast of Gainsville. He then moved to Ellis County about 1877 where he became a founding member of the Chambers Creek Masonic Lodge No. 499.
