Funeral services were held May 1 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
George Hovanes was born March 22, 1918, in Sartell to George Sr. and Susan (Plafcan) Hovanes. He married Emma Schichta on April 23, 1941, at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Elmdale, MN. He worked four years at Watab Paper Company and more than 30 years at DeZurik Corp., where he was a tool and die maker, steam engineer and plant engineer until 1969, when he built and started Rimco Industries in Rice, MN. He designed and built special machinery until retiring in 1973. He also owned and operated St. Cloud Ambulance in 1947. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, a volunteer firefighter in Sartell for 20 years and was chief of the Sartell-LeSauk Fire Department for eight years. He was a retired member of The State Fire Chiefs Association.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Sharon Theisen and husband Daryl of Sartell, Mary Jane Raynor and husband Ron of Coeur d'Alene, ID, and Anne Crary and husband John of Lake Zurich, IL; and four grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Anne; and four brothers, John, Andrew, Aleck, and Theodore.
