John Baumgartner, son of Anton and Magdalena Baumgartner, early settlers of Green county, Wisconsin, was born in the canton of Glarus, Switzerland, Aug. 9, i838. He was nine years of age when his parents came to America and settled in Green county, where he grew to manhood. He attended school in his native country, and also in the pioneer schools of Washington. He has also built a large barn, with a stone basement, a granary 16x26 feet, and a stable of the same dimensions. He is engaged in raising grain and stock. Mr. and Mrs. Baumgartner have nine children-Magdalena, Anna, Mary, Lydia, Herman A, Richard J., Reuben H., Otto. M. and Bertha J.
