She marred Dr. Avery Bartini Curl in June of 1897. Unfortunately, Lelia's husband, Dr. Curl, died in 1899. However to their brief union, one daughter was born: Dorothy Jane Curl - born on 9 July 1898. (Dorothy Jane later married Charles Ray Wilson; Dorothy later died in Aberdeen, Brown, South Dakota.)
Lelia Marie (Cannon) Curl McKinney was a descendant of the Mayflower families via her mother: Jennie E. (Hopkins) Cannon. They were both direct descendants of Stephen Hopkins via his son Giles.
Lelia was also a member of the DAR (membership #107058, chapter 5014 South Dakota). Lelia's patriot was her great great grandfather, Josiah Hopkins, on her mother's side. She used the name Lelia Cannon Curl McKinney for her application. Since she was still listed as the widow "Lelia Curl" in the 1920 Federal census in Rice County, Minnesota, her DAR application wasn't submitted until after she remarried sometime after 1920, but before the 1930 census when she was married to Charles S McKinney in Caledonia, Houston County, Minnesota...
Note: Lelia's daughter (Dorothy Jane [Curl] Wilson) was also a member of the DAR, but she chose to use John Cannon as her patriot. John Cannon was the Lelia's great great grandfather on her father's side. Dorothy's DAR membership was number 129362.
